The Tory government blew-up a modern downtown hospital, sold two other hospitals to PC Party insiders for pennies-on-the-dollar, and repeatedly tried to introduce private, for-profit health care into our Medicare system.
They tried with Bill 37. They tried with Bill 11. They tried with the Mazankowski Report. Each time Albertans have said, "NO!"
September 11, 2007: According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the average health premium for bare-bones family coverage in America is $12,106. This is akin to a mortgage payment that NEVER goes away. And to make matters worse, based on previous health issues or previous claims, the insurance companies can cancel any policy at any time.
It’s time Alberta’s government put patients and practitioners ahead of profit.
Why Alberta Liberal policy gets a better grade:
Our public health care system stands among our nation’s defining achievements. Changes to the system must be guided by sound research and solid evidence, not driven by ideology.
Evidence clearly shows a well-managed public health care system is more efficient and less expensive than private, for-profit health care. The Alberta Liberals strongly maintain that innovations can be implemented without private financing or for-profit delivery.
We believe a healthy society is about more than good hospitals and fine doctors and nurses; it is also about strong communities, healthy lifestyles, and a clean environment.
To move public health care forward, the Alberta Liberals will focus on bold innovation and strong, steady management.
