Evidence of the PC government’s environmental mismanagement is all around us: loss of species, arid regions, the highest pollution rates in Canada, thousands of contaminated well sites, and critical volumes of water being used for tar sands development.
Our provincial government has failed to embrace its role as steward of water resources, and enact strict, binding and enforceable regulations designed to limit the use and abuse of our water supply.
Alberta is an energy giant, but there needs to be a better balance between industry and the environment. Plundering our resources as fast as we can is simply wrong. We live off the land, and as long as we respect Mother Nature she’ll produce for us. Balance is the key.
Why Alberta Liberal policy gets a better grade:
Despite the current government’s cavalier attitude towards our environment, Albertans are still blessed with an abundance of clean air and water, of unsurpassed natural beauty, and of biodiversity. We have a responsibility to manage our legacy for the enjoyment of generations to come.
The current government argues that taking real action would ruin our economy and lower our standard of living. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Caring for the environment is vital to our health, our quality of life, and our economic prosperity. Of particular importance right now is the protection of this province’s water resources.
To ensure future generations enjoy our generous water supply, there needs to be a significant change in the management of Alberta’s most precious resource.
The Alberta Liberals want to make water conservation a top priority by introducing a bill designed to protect Alberta’s water resources.
