Unaffordable - now and in the future.

C- gradeA good education is priceless, and yet far too many university students are stuck between a rock and hard place, trying to find an affordable place to live and pay ever-rising tuition fees.

Students at the University of Calgary work an average of 17 hours per week while maintaining full-time course loads. The average debt load for a university graduate from a four-year program is in the tens of thousands of dollars. And, sadly, student debt levels are highest for those students with the least family resources.

How many Conservative MLA’s enjoyed the benefits of a fully funded education, only to be elected and take the legs out from under the system for future generations?

Why Alberta Liberal policy gets a better grade:

Education imageThe Alberta Liberals believe that it’s time to invest in Alberta’s greatest resource – people. The place to start is in the classroom. From pre-kindergarten to post-secondary, we must aim for excellence in our education system.

Top-notch post-secondary schools and a highly educated workforce will sustain Alberta employers, expand opportunities for young people, raise income levels, attract new businesses, and support emerging technologies that can help to diversify our economy. No investment will pay higher dividends.

To move education forward, the Alberta Liberals will focus on:

   • strengthening the post-secondary system and increasing accessibility, to      give every Albertan the opportunity to reach their potential;

   • supporting and recognizing excellence in classrooms across Alberta; and

   • expanding Early Childhood Development programs to ensure every child

     benefits from a healthy and positive start.

  1. What a sad state of affairs that school boards ... have to pull teeth to get any money for immediate needs. In the case of Western Canada High School, concrete sills are falling off the building. Maybe the MLAs need to do the repairs on their days off.

For a province swimming in money, this is one heck of a legacy left by Ralph Klein and lived up to by Ed Stelmach and his northern peons.

Get on with an election.
