It is a fact that money invested in early learning programs produce better students who later in life have lower social costs. It is worth repeating: early education is an investment, NOT a cost.
For all those parents who are struggling and barely keeping afloat because of Alberta’s high cost of living combined with a child-care shortage, call your PC MLA and ask: Where is the Alberta Advantage?
Ask them to do the math:
A growing population
+ A lack of child-care spaces
+ A lack of child-care workers
= CRISIS
Why Alberta Liberal policy gets a better grade:
The Alberta Liberals believe the parents of young children deserve our support as hardworking and productive members of the workforce. Our child care investments are designed to benefit not only young Albertan families, but to have a positive and lasting impact on the social and economic wellbeing of our province.
There are many great opportunities for Alberta workers in this economy - but it’s not that easy to find affordable, quality child care. That means parents who want to work may not have that option, or may have to settle for less than ideal child care. Choosing between employment and adequate child care is not something Alberta parents should have to do.
To move education forward, the Alberta Liberals will focus on:

• increasing the number of high quality child
care spaces;
• improving the stability and quality of the child care workforce; and
• giving parents and caregivers more child care options.

The situation is so dire one family is packing up and moving in order to find someone to take care of their kids while they work.
Day care providers are turning away desperate families due to a lack of spaces made worse by a labour shortage and a fast-growing population.
Others are closing their doors altogether.
